Circuit history:

Adelaide International Raceway (or Adelaide International for short) was originally the dreamchild of Keith Williams, who opened the raceway in January 1972. It had basic facilities and operated as a club venue for its first decade until it was purchased by the Bob Jane Corporation.

Wrangles with the local authority prevented any major upgrades until 1994, when a new pit building and hospitality suites were installed.

Since then the focus of operations has largely been on the drag strip, but the half-mile oval hasn't been in use for at least five years and the track is seriously overgrown.

Work to upgrade the whole facility is finally going ahead in 2006, although it is unclear whether racing will ever fully return or whether operations will continue to focus on the drag strip.
