Circuit history:

A fast and flowing circuit north of Brisbane, Lakeside opened in March 1961 at Petrie, just a few feet from the shores of Lake Kurwongbah. The circuit is a favourite among Aussie racers and was one of the orignal hosts of the Tasman series in the 1960s.

The recent history of the circuit has been turbulent and acrimonious, with Lakeside closing to racing in 2001, having been bought by the local council. It remains complete but in a dormant state. However, Pine Rivers Shire Council announced in February 2006 that it had invited seven parties to submit business proposals to revive the circuit. The new Lakeside would include a range of activities including motorsport, driver training, youth programs, outdoor sport and recreation as well as tourism development. The council hopes to make an announcement as to the future direction of the circuit in September 2006.
