Circuit history:
Bremgarten was an ultra-fast blast through the forests on the outskirts of Bern, close to the River Wohlensee. With no real straights to speak of, the circuit was a challenging test of bravery and skill, featuring corner after corner.
Opened in 1931 for motorcycles, by 1934 Bremgarten was host to Grand Prix cars and the Swiss GP in 1934, won by Hans Stuck in an Auto Union.
With the challenges came danger, and the first GP claimed the life of Hugh Hamilton, while both Achille Varzi and Christian Kautz perished in the 1948 race.
It was dangers elsewhere which spelled the end for Bremgarten however; Swiss authorities banned motor racing outright in the wake of the Le Mans disaster in 1955.
The circuit, however, exists to this day as a parkland road, with the control tower neatly restored to pristine condition. Despite the racing ban, a historic revival event was held in 1998.
