Circuit history:
During World War II, Llandow, near Cardiff, was home to Spitfires and the Royal Canadian Air Force before it was decommissioned by the Air Ministry in 1957.
In 1961 part of the site was bought at auction by local farmer Jack Evans. Together with the South Wales Automobile Club, he linked the runways to form a one-mile oval circuit, and Llandow Circuit was born.
The new circuit was officially opened by Graham Hill in 1963 and enjoyed early success, with crowds of up to 4,000 coming to watch both car and motorbike racing.
By the 1980s, the circuit had become a little run-down, with grass tracking, stock car racing and even sheep trials (well, it is in Wales!) headlining proceedings.
A race and rally school, plus a new kart track, helped improve the situation, but the real changes came when the current owners (descendents of Jack Evans) took the plunge and resurfaced the whole track, adding a few new corners and removing the bumps. The sheep also rapidly disappeared...
Now the circuit is licenced for MSA Sprints, private and club hire and car and motorcycle track days. Unusually, Llandow can be run in either direction - although not at the same time!
