Circuit history:
The famous Speed Week events made their home at the Oakes Field airstrip in the Bahamas in the 1950s and 1960s, with countless big name racers coming to try their hand in the latest sportscars for a series of trophies.
The track hosted the Governor's Trophy and Nassau trophy between 1957 and 1965, with winners including Masten Gregory, Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren, Stirling Moss and Phil Hill to name but a few.
Events ground to a halt in 1966 for an unusual reason: the boat used to transport the cars to the island was impounded by customs, forcing the cancellation of racing. Plans for a new event at Freeport foundered after just one event in 1967.
