Circuit history:

Hour Glass Field was created on a disused US Navy Reserve airfield, 12 miles north east of La Jolla, near San Diego in California.

The 1.8-mile blacktop airport circuit was about 30 ft wide with packed sand and rock shoulders. It was good for spectators, with around 90 percent of the course visible from the start/finish line and lots of parking available around the circuit.

The lap record was l mm 38 sec at 66.176 mph and events were sponsored by the SCCA (San Diego Region) and the California Sports Car Club.

However, in 1959, the SCCA, San Diego region, was ordered by national HQ to withdraw its co-sponsorship of races, due to arguments between the SCCA and the California Sports Car Club.
