Circuit history:
Located in Castle Rock, Colorado, Continental Divide Raceway opened in 1959. The main road course was 2.8 miles in length, but the circuit also included a 0.5 mile banked oval and a drag strip.
The circuit almost happened by accident; it was originally planned to be the 'International Columbine Sports Center' - a stillborn plan to build a spectator venue for most major sports in Denver. However, a hill climb on a dirt road running through the property staged in 1957 set the wheels in motion for the permanent circuit to be built.
The project was taken over by the Colorado Motor Raceway Inc, which raised money via a stock offer and built the circuit complex. Racing continued until 1972, when the circuit was closed.
