Circuit history:
Pikes Peak International Raceway was built on the site of the Pikes Peak Meadows horse racing track, opening in 1997. The 1.0-mile 'D' shape oval course hosted IRL and NASCAR Busch series races in its nine-year life. The infield road course was designed by famed circuit designer Alan Wilson.
In 2005 the facility was bought by International Speedway Corps, the company having previously signed a management contract with the venue in 2003. In a now familiar move, ISC transferred the NASCAR Busch Series races to Martinsville and announced the venue was to close. Options are being considered for the disposal of the site.
