Circuit history:
Opened in July 2001, Chicangoland cost $130 million and is next door to Route 66 Dragway.
Initial accommodation includes grandstand seating for 75,000 spectators, 37 luxury suites, on-site parking and camping areas and reserved long-term parking areas for recreational vehicles in the infield adjacent to the second and third turns.
The first row of grandstand seats is 14 feet high, allowing a view across the entire track. No permanent structure in the infield is higher than 14 feet, thus providing excellent sightlines for every fan.
“There is definitely a trick to it,” NASCAR driver Derrike Cope says of the track. “You have to go in there with a lot of horsepower and a good-handling car. If you are down on motor, it’s going to be a long day. If you are not handling, you are going to be reaching for the Advil after you pop the wall. It’s a place that requires a lot from the car all day long.”
