Circuit history:
O'Reilly Raceway Park began as a dream on the part of 15 racing professionals and area businessmen. Originally called Indianapolis Raceway Park, the track is now the site of three courses - a 4,400-foot drag strip, a 0.686-mile oval and a 15-turn, 2.5-mile road course - all of which are paved with asphalt.
The facility has been owned and operated by the National Hot Rod Association since 1979. In June 2006, auto parts maker O'Reilly acquired naming rights to the facility.
The oval circuit was host to the first-ever NASCAR Grand National (now Busch Series) race in Indianapolis in 1982, and has been a part of the second-tier NASCAR schedule every year since. The Kroger NASCAR 200 is one of only two races that has had the same sponsor every season.
Far from being overshadowed by its world famous neighbour, IRP is a popular venue for testing while the Kroger 200 is an essential part of the build-up to the Brickyard 400 at nearby Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Also included in that jam-packed weekend of racing is a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at IRP. With three series competing on two tracks in one city, it makes for quite a weekend in Indianapolis.
