Circuit history:
Located in rural Eastern Kansas, Lake Garnett was a road course laid out in a park around the lake of the same name. The Lake Garnett Grand Prix attracted some top names and large crowds (figures close to the 50,000 mark have been suggested for some events), impressive considering its remote location.
Operational from 1959 into to 1972, the circuit was narrow and hugged the shoreline of the lake closely, traversing a bridge and a dam along the way. Safety concerns and crowd troubles (there was a riot at a 1963 race!) led to its demise as a venue for sportcars, but Lake Garnett is still used today for shifter karts.
