Circuit history:
If ever there was an example of how not to run a Grand Prix weekend, Dallas provided it in 1984. When the F1 circus turned up the circuit was still under construction and when they did finally venture on track - in 100 degree heat - the surface broke up. Nonetheless, the race went ahead and Keke Rosberg was one of the few to keep it out of the walls, utilising a water-cooled race suit on the way to his only victory of the year.
Understandably, the race proved a one-off for the GP brigade, which in retrospect was a pity, as consensus suggested that the track design itself wasn't too bad. However, the SCCA Trans Am series raced at the venue in 1988 on a new course, designed by Alan Wilson, based around the start/finish area of the 1984 circuit. Tommy Archer proved victorious before the race moved to Addison Airport.
