Proof - were it ever to be needed - that Ferrari has considerable political clout in Italy was given recently, when the Italian government agreed to back down over plans to limit noise exclusion.

New legislation would have meant that cars louder than 70 decibels - roughly the same level as a Formula 3 car- would have been resticted to just 12 days activity at both the Fiorano test track and Ferrari-owned Mugello, preventing Ferrari testing at its own 'home' tracks.

Instead the government has agreed 60 days of running with noise above the 70-decibel level, freeing Ferrari to continue its testing activities.
