Monaco to get paddock upgrade

Diagram of changes to Monte Carlo circuit

The first substantial alterations to the Monaco street circuit since the addition of the Swimming Pool complex and Rascasse could be in place by 2004, allowing much-needed extra space for the paddock and pit lane.

A newly extended harbour area would free up reclaimed land, allowing the track to be moved further back into what is currently water, providing a wider pit lane and a paddock behind the pit buildings for the first time. The rest of the circuit would remain unchanged.

The changes would likely appease team bosses, especially those at the tail-end of the grid who have to work out of a multi-storey car park under the present arrangements. A wider pit lane would also improve safety for pit crews during race and practice sessions.
