Nagatino Island hit by delays
Nagatino Island circuit features an oval, hotel and marina.
Construction on the proposed new F1 circuit on Nagatino Island in Moscow has been delayed after event promoters failed to meet their own deadline to finalise contracts.
Russian GP organisers had hoped to signa deal to stage a race in 2003 by the end of November but reports in Russia suggest that increased financial demands by Bernie Ecclestone lie at the root of the problem.
Local news media has suggested that Ecclestone had initailly asked the race organisers to guarantee they had 13 percent of the funds needed to complete the project before giving the go ahead. He is now said to have upped that to 80 percent.
Despite this setback, organisers say the delay will not stop the circuit from being ready to take up a 2003 slot.
