The derelict oval circuit at Sitges-Terramar in Catalunya is to be restored as "The Motor Racing Resort". A limited number of historic meetings are hoped to be run at the re-vamped facility.

Sitges dates back to 1922 when a local racing star called Frick Armangue raised the money to build the curious oval, which features a kink in one of its two straight sections, with one of the banked turns cuts through a deep rock gorge.

It was built in double-quick time, opening just 300 days after Armangue had proposed it at a cost of 4 million pesetas. The first - and only - race, the 1923 Spanish GP, saw a memorable battle between the Miller 122 driven by Count Louis Zborowski and Alberto Divo's Sunbeam.

The track had a short history, however, as it went out of business after the Grand Prix. It has remained unused ever since but the intention is to revive the facility for a limited number of race meetings for pre-1950 machinery and a number of corporate activities.
