Imola circuit bosses have revealed a package of modifications that could be put in place in time for next year's San Marino Grand Prix, provided the money can be raised.

Plans have been put in place to straighten out the Variante Alta and move the pit lane further towards Rivazza. This would allow its lengthening by eliminating the chicane right before the pit entrance and to build an entire new garage and pit suite complex.

Increased overtaking opportunities will also result from the removal of the Villeneuve chicane.

The cost of the changes is in the region of £10 million, but with crowd figures at last weekend's race believed to be down on previous seasons, the alterations may be delayed or phased in over a number of years.
