First laps at new Arizona circuit
The first laps have been turned on a brand new road course in the USA when Gary Stiles, a senior instructor at the Team Arizona Motorcycle School, became the first rider to test the 2.227 mile Arizona Motorsports Park race track.
He was on hand to help track designer Alan Wilson determine curb, corner posts and safety system locations for the new facility.
The circuit, next to the Luke Airforce Base in Maricopa County, comprises two 1.1 mile courses which can be run independently or combined into one 16 turn track.
Although mainly flat, it features minimal safety barriers, expansive run-off areas and some challenging corners.
The track - which is the home of the Arizona Motorcycle School - will host several motorcycle race weekends each year and should be fully open in March.
