Pau extension to lure CART race?

Map of proposed Pau extension

Organisers of the Pau street race circuit are planning a circuit extension to lure top line motor racing back to the French track.

Pau Grand Prix president Jean-Paul Pasquet is reported to have had preliminary discussions with CART chief Chris Pook. The circuit also has high hopes of landing a DTM, European Touring Car Championship or FIA GT round.

The extension, which will be added for next year's F3 race, sees racers turn sharp left at the chicane down residential streets to a hairpin, before doubling back on itself and rejoining the existing circuit just before the start/finish straight.

It will be the first real changes to the circuit since it was first used in 1933. New grandstands will also be built on the start/finish straight in 2006.
