New Silverstone pits due for '05

The pit buildings at Silverstone

Construction of a new pit lane complex could be completed at Silverstone in time for the 2005 racing season, it has been revealed.

The Northamptonshire circuit's managing director has revealed that agreement with the BRDC and Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone could soon be reached on the much-delayed revamped.

Andrew Waller told Autosport magazine that "tremendous progress" had been made in talks with the government over funding for the project.

Previously announced plans to relocated the pits to the straight after Club Corner have now been abandoned, however. Instead, the current pit and paddock facilities will be demolished and extensively remodelled.

Work is expected to begin immediately following the 2004 British Grand Prix.
