The central area of Durban could play host to a street race for touring cars.

Durban in South Africa is set to host national racing championships on its streets this year.

A new street circuit around a waterfront casino will host V8 touring cars in October. The circuit, comprised of long straights and slow, tight corners, was originally scheduled to host racing in 2003. The event was cancelled because of logistical setbacks.

Other features along the circuit's length are an army base and a waterworld centre.
