Califronia Speedway's project to illuminate its entire circuit is now well under way, with the first Musco lighting sets now in place.
Around the exterior of the two-mile oval, 127 poles will light the track including 74 freestanding poles reaching 70-120 feet into the air, 29 grandstand poles towering an additional 50 feet into the air (the top of the grandstand is approximately 110 feet from the ground level) and 24 skybox poles stretching an additional 9-feet into the air above the speedway's luxury suites on top of the grandstands.
Approximately 1,490 light fixtures (1,500 watt and 2,000 watt metal halide bulbs) will light the racing surface giving out 2.5 million watts of power.
Construction began in October and is expected to take a few more months. Light poles in Parking Lot One, behind the speedway's main grandstand, have also been placed. These light standards will eventually be used to illuminate the NHRA Street Legal Drag Racing nights at the quarter-mile California Dragway.
