The second desert-based racing circuit to open in the past 12 months is readying itself ahead of its first international race meeting in October.
The Dubai Autodrome has been designed in conjunction with British touring car and long-time F3 entrants West Surrey Racing and incorporates innovative features and world-class facilities.
The 5.35km track has been built to Formula One and MotoGP standards, although neither series has yet expressed an interest in the facility. Headlining the activities this year will be the European Touring Car Championships and the FIA GT Series, although the Autodrome looks set to establish local championships and be part of the new A1GP series.
The project also incorporates a business park, aimed at the automotive industry, with tenants having direct track access by prior arrangement and reduced track hire rates.
Off road-courses, an oval, moto-cross centre and karting tracks complete the development.
The Autodrome is the first circuit to be built in the United Arab Emirates and follows on from the Bahrain International Circuit which opened earlier in 2004. A further desert circuit - at Doha in Qatar - also holds its first race in October.
