Motorcycle upgrades at Mid Ohio

Major safety improvements for motorcycle racers have been installed at the Mid Ohio road course in the USA. The updates include relocating the wall on the back straight and at Turn Seven to provide further room.
The changes were based on feedback provided by AMA Pro Racing officials and participating riders and follow on from safety updates initiated with the track surface repair and reformation of Turn 11 barriers in 2004.
Other safety improvements brought in by track owners TrueSports Inc. include the purchase of 1,000 feet of air module safety barriers for deployment in Turn Seven and around the track. These units will be used in addition to approximately 1,000 feet deployed by AMA Pro Racing.
Gravel pit transitions have also been smoothed and additional gravel has been added.
“At the conclusion of last year’s (AMA Pro Series) event, race manager Ron Barrick and I discussed both short and long-term improvements based on input from riders and officials,” explained TrueSports Inc. president Michelle Trueman Gajoch.
“We feel these changes are an appropriate extension of our ongoing safety discussion with AMA Pro Racing. Moving forward, we will perform additional safety measures and obtain more safety barriers as part of our continual process of track improvement.”
