Bilbao street race canned

Plan of the Bilbao Urban Circuit

Bilbao's street race appears to have been a 'one hit wonder' with news that the event has been dropped from the 2006 World Series by Renault calendar

The race around the streets of the Basque region capital in Spain drew more than 100,000 in its first event last year, with the main races won by Robert Kubica and Will Power. The race featured the dramatic backdrop of Bilbao's famous buildings, including the Guggenheim Museum.

However, event organisers were forced to pull out of a three-year deal after just one running thanks to differences between the local political parties over the continuation of the event.

Series organizers confirmed that the Spanish round of the championship will now switch to Barcelona after unveiling their calendar for 2006 late last month.
