Honda-owned circuits Suzuka and Motegi are to be merged into one business, the car giant has announced.
Two subsidiaries, Suzuka Circuitland Co., Ltd. and Twin Ring Motegi Co., Ltd., have reached a basic agreement to merge their operations sometime around June 2006. Prior to this merger, Honda will obtain all outstanding shares of Suzuka Circuitland and make it a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda.
The newly merged company, planned to be named Mobilityland Co., Ltd., will leverage the know-how and experiences of each facility to offer higher-quality events, products and services and contribute to the further growth of motor sports, safe driving promotion and other lifestyle pursuits.
One of the major challenges for the new firm will be to fend off a bid from arch-rival Toyota to win the Japanese F1 Grand Prix for its Suzuka circuit.
Suzuka also currently hosts the 8-Hour race for motorcycles, while Motegi is home to the Indy 300 Indycar race and the Japanese round of the MotoGP series.
