Durban readies itself for A1 GP
The new Durban street course has been revealed for the first time by race organisers, complete with a beachfront start/finish straight.
The beachfront venue will be laid out on roads surrounding a casino and hosts the A1 Grand Prix series on January 29. The track is likely to attact a large crowd, being South Africa's first international single-seater race since the 1993 Formula One event at Kyalami.
The track layout is a variation on one originally proposed for Champ Cars and then a stillborn round of the domestic touring car series. With apartment blocks overlooking the first turn - not to mention the close proximity of water and a casino - the circuit has borne comparisons with the Monte Carlo street course in Monaco.
