Iceland reveals first circuit plan
Iceland has announced plans to build its first permanent motor racing track, close to its international airport.
The Iceland MotoPark will be built at Keflavik, alongside the main dual carriageway to the capital Reykjavik. Plans for a 2.7 miles (4.4km) circuit have been released by developers Toppurinn, which could be built as early as 2007.
Helping to finance the project will be a series of apartments aimed at affluent young people from Reykjavik. Also on site will be a hotel and conference centre, to a similar space-age design as the apartments.
Futuristic apartments will help to fund the circuit.

The track layout has been penned by British designer Clive Bowen, whose other work includes the Dubai Autodrome and the proposed Hampton Downs course in New Zealand. Architects HOK and landscape experts Lovejoys have added their expertise to the masterplan, which was revealed at the finish of the Icelandic Rally.
The circuit will be built in stages, with a 1.49 mile (2.4km) constructed which will be extended to the full layout if the facility proves a success. The completed course would be an FIA category two track, which could be capable of hosting events such as the WTCC or A1 GP.
