For many the Group C era was the pinnacle of sportscar racing, so to find a video cataloguing the iconic Porsche 956 from the driver's seat is quite a treat.
Guiding us round 7 circuits from the World Championship of Makes is five times Le Mans winner and double world champ Derek Bell.
Turbo chatter galore accompanies the high speed laps of Silverstone, the Nürburgring, Le Mans, Spa, Brands Hatch, Fuji and Kyalami, shot during the 1983 season. And I do mean high speed - Bell sets the fifth fastest lap ever of the mighty Nordschleife despite the extra weight of the camera. It is also interesting to see the 'Ring in its interim stage, utilising what is now the 'tourist track' while the new circuit neared completion. Despite watching it numerous times, I still can't figure out how everyone squeezed into the tiny pit lane after T13!
The Spa and Kyalami laps, meanwhile, provide an interesting comparision with the Lap of the Gods films, while the pre-chicane Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans is simply mind-blowing, giving a tremendous sense of speed.
The video is perhaps a little on the short side but there can be no doubting the commitment of Bell as he chucks the Rothmans Porsche at each of the seven tracks.
Now that the video is aslo available in DVD format, it is well worth adding to your collection.
