Miller time in Salt Lake City
Anew Alan Wilson-designed circuit is set to open in Utah later this year. Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, around 30 miles west of Salt Lake City, is scheduled to open in August.
Built on a 500-acre site, the facility will include road courses of 2.24-mile and 2.0-miles, which will be able to be run separately and simultaneously or be combined into a single, 4.5-mile-long road course.
A 3.02 mile perimeter course is also being developed that will bypass the more technical inner sections and will allow for stockcar and road race events.
Circuit bosses say the facilities will be "world class" and will offer private membership club for auto and motorcycle enthusiasts. A heavily-banked final corner following on from a series of sweeping esses is set to be the signature corner on the circuit.
Pit, paddock and spectator facilities are set to be of the highest standards, according to the circuit's website.
Spectators: clear views
"The level of paddock accommodation and service amenities will be among the best in the US for this level of facility. Spectators will have complete, clear views of track activity, easy access to parking and paddock, and quality service amenities," says the website.
"The Miller Motorsports Park is designed to provide some of the best viewing opportunities of any track in the US. It has both close-up and full view visibility from the major spectator areas. There will be stadium viewing from five primary spectator zones, or “Oasis” areas, around the outside of the course from which spectators will have close view of significant overtaking/action areas as well as 95% to 100% sight of the entire course."
The circuit is the brainchild of entrepreneur and racing enthusiast Larry H. Miller. He is also the owner of the Utah Jazz NBA franchise, the Delta Center arena in downtown Salt Lake City, the KJZZ-TV station, movie theatres, a theme restaurant, and more than 40 auto dealerships.
