New Houston track unveiled
The Grand Prix of Houston ha sunveiled the track design that Champ Car drivers will have to navigate next season.
The 1.7-mile temporary street track at Reliant Park will host Champ Car’s first-ever night race on such a circuit May 11-13.
“We developed a track that will challenge and excite the world’s best drivers,” said Michael T. Lanigan, CEO of the Grand Prix of Houston. “We want to maximize speed and create passing opportunities to electrify the drivers and race fans alike."
The Grand Prix of Houston retained the services of Martyn Thake, who has designed a course that passes by the famous Houston Astrodome.
“Reliant Park provides over 345 acres to develop a unique driving experience,” Thake said. “The Grand Prix of Houston will be one of the most exciting races on the Champ Car schedule and contains all the necessary features and structures to create a world class fan experience.”
Houston had previously hosted a Champ Car race on streets in the downtown area, last used in 2001.
